Automatic Presser Foot Lift Guide
The presser foot lift raises the foot when you stop sewing. On automated machines, this happens without you reaching for the lever.
Two Lift Systems

The knee lever is the system I recommend for reliability. It is a steel rod that runs from a paddle on the machine base to the presser foot bar. There is nothing electronic to fail.
When the Auto Lift Fails

Fixing the Motorized Solenoid Lift
- Open the machine base. The solenoid is near the presser foot bar.
- Check voltage at the solenoid when you stop sewing. Should read 12V DC.
- If voltage is present but solenoid does not move, the solenoid coil is open. Measure resistance — should be 10-30 ohms.
- If no voltage, the issue is upstream: the control board or sensor.
- Replace a failed solenoid. Solenoids are model-specific, but many Brother and Janome machines use compatible parts.
