Auto Needle Stop Troubleshooting
Your machine should stop with the needle where you want it. Up for turning fabric. Down for pivoting. When it stops wrong, the sewing rhythm breaks.
How the Needle Stop Sensor Works
A hall effect sensor reads the position of a magnet mounted on the motor shaft. The sensor sends a signal to the main control board. When you lift your foot off the pedal, the control board stops the motor at the programmed position.

Common Failures

Electronic Damage
If you smell burning when the needle stop fails, the motor driver transistor may be shorted. Unplug the machine and open the base. A shorted MOSFET costs $2 to replace but takes 30 minutes to diagnose.
Diagnosing the Hall Effect Sensor
- Open the side cover of the machine where the motor is located.
- Look for a small three-pin sensor next to a magnet on the motor shaft.
- Turn the handwheel slowly. The sensor should show voltage change when the magnet passes.
- Set your multimeter to DC voltage. Probe pin 1 (VCC) — should read 5V.
- Probe pin 2 (output) while turning the handwheel. The voltage should switch between 0V and 5V.
- If no voltage change, the sensor is dead. Replace it. A generic hall effect sensor costs about $3 on Digikey.

Replacing the Needle Position Sensor
- Remove the side panel and locate the sensor board.
- Desolder the old hall effect sensor (A3144 or equivalent).
- Insert the new sensor with the flat face toward the magnet.
- Solder the three pins: VCC (red), GND (black), Output (yellow).
- Reassemble and test by running 10 stitches with needle down selected.
